Jump Up is one of the most popular cultural festivals on St. Croix and a must-experience event for visitors and locals alike. Held (typically) four times each year in historic downtown Christiansted, Jump Up is a free, family-friendly street festival that celebrates Crucian culture, food, music, and community.
During Jump Up, the streets of Christiansted are closed to traffic from the Boardwalk to Company Street and from Fort Christiansvaern to Queen Cross Street. The town transforms into a lively outdoor party filled with live bands, street performers, local artisans, and sidewalk sales from downtown shops.
Food is a major highlight of Jump Up in St. Croix. Local vendors and restaurants line the streets serving traditional West Indian favorites like pates, johnny cakes, roti, and freshly cracked coconuts. Try adding a splash of rum to your coconut while sampling the island’s street food scene.
The iconic Guardians of Culture Moko Jumbies parade through the streets from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. These towering West Indian stilt dancers are a favorite attraction for children and adults and are a signature part of the Jump Up experience.
After Jump Up officially ends and the roads reopen, Christiansted bars and restaurants continue the celebration late into the night. Visitors are encouraged to follow posted parking restrictions, as towing is strictly enforced during Jump Up events.
If you are planning a trip to St. Croix, timing your visit around a Jump Up festival is one of the best ways to experience authentic island culture in Christiansted.
